Anne E. Urankar

November 19, 1920 — April 30, 2017

Anne E. Urankar, 96, died April 30, 2017, in Overland Park, Kansas. Anne was born November 19, 1920, in Cockerill, Kansas, to Sylvester and Mary (Ewolski) Sray. She graduated from Cockerill High School with the class of 1939. She married Frank Urankar November 25, 1939, in Lamar, Missouri, and they moved to Pittsburg, Kansas, where she lived in the same home for 70 years. He predeceased her in 1998. Anne moved to Ottawa, Kansas, in 2010 and then to Overland Park in 2015. Anne was a homemaker and spent countless hours sewing clothing and quilts for her family, as well as enough Christmas ornaments to decorate everyone’s trees. She was proud to have made wedding dresses for both of her daughters and completed an individualized quilt for each of her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Anne enjoyed genealogy and traveled to both Poland and Slovenia in 1994 to visit the birthplaces of her parents. She was an avid sports fan, cheering for local teams including KU basketball, K-State football, the Royals and Chiefs, and rarely missed watching a game on TV. She was a lifetime member of Slovene National Benefit Society (SNPJ) Lodge Number 27. Anne is survived by two daughters, Barbara (Richard) Schwartz of Leawood, KS, and Kathleen (Andrew) Mackie of Ottawa, KS; and a sister, Josephine Borello, of Overland Park. She is also survived by four grandchildren: Linda (Jonathan) McCall, of Raleigh, NC; Mary (Ryan) Hamm, Overland Park, KS; Susan Mackie, of Boston, MA; Matthew (Lindsay) Schwartz, Atlanta, GA; and six great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband, Frank; parents, and a brother, Jess Wohlford. According to her wishes Anne has been cremated. Her final resting place will be next to her husband, at Mount Carmel Cemetery, Frontenac, Kansas. A private family service will be held at a later date. Memorial contributions may be made to the Ransom Memorial Hospital Auxiliary in Ottawa c/o Dengel & Son Mortuary, 235 S. Hickory Street, Ottawa, Kansas 66067. Family and friends are encouraged to post their condolences and memories on Anne’s Tribute Wall at www.dengelmortuary.com
