Ann Elizabeth Hunsicker, born on November 30, 1945, in Boston, Massachusetts, to John and Elanor (Maloney) Handrahan, passed away peacefully on December 15, 2024, at Rock Creek of Ottawa in Ottawa, Kansas. A devoted wife, mother, and sister, Ann's life was marked by her unwavering commitment to family, education, and service to her community.
Ann graduated high school in 1963 and furthered her education with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing and a Bachelor of Science Degree in Athletic Training from MidAmerica Nazarene University. She culminated her academic achievements with a Master's Degree in Public Health from the same institution. Her career was distinguished by her service in the Army from November 11, 1969, to June 30, 1974, where she served as an operating room nurse. Throughout her military service, she earned several honors including the National Defense Service Medal, the Good Conduct Medal, the Air Medal, the Army Aviation Badge, the Vietnam Service Medal, and the Vietnam Campaign Medal.
In addition to her academic and military accomplishments, Ann was actively involved in her community. She volunteered at the Life Care Center in Ottawa, where her caring nature shone brightly. Ann had a diverse range of interests that included crocheting, quilting, gardening, and martial arts. Family and friends were central to her life, and she treasured the moments spent with them.
In November 1971, Ann was united in marriage in Weymouth Massachusetts to Gary Hunsicker. He survives of the home.
Along with her loving husband Gary, Ann is survived by her son Rob Hunsicker (Erica Daigle) of Baton Rouge, Louisiana; her brother John Handrahan (Judy) of San Antonio, Texas; and her brother William Handrahan of Massachusetts. She also leaves behind cherished memories with her family, friends, and all those whose lives she touched.
She joins her parents, John and Elanor (Maloney) Handrahan, her step-mother Jane Handrahan, and her sister Peggy Handrahan, in eternal rest.
A Mass in her honor will be held on December 20, 2024, at 10:00 AM at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church located at 426 South Cedar Street, Ottawa, Kansas, followed by a burial service on December 23, 2024, at 11:00 AM at the Fort Leavenworth National Cemetery, 395 Biddle Boulevard, Fort Leavenworth, Kansas. Ann’s legacy of love, service, and dedication will live on in the hearts of those who knew her.
