Ann E. Betz

Ann Elise (Shell) Betz, 68, died June 5, 2020, at Rock Creek of Ottawa, in Ottawa, Kansas. Cremation is planned. Family will meet with friends from 6:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M., Friday, June 12, 2020, at Dengel & Son Mortuary, Ottawa. Ann was born May 8, 1952, in Garnett, Kansas, to Gwinn Gibson Shell and Geraldine Olive (Minor) Shell. The daughter of a lawyer and a homemaker, Ann grew up in Garnett. She graduated from Garnett High School with the class of 1970 and continued her education at the University of Kansas with aspirations of becoming a speech pathologist. Instead, she became a homemaker and stayed home while her children were young. Later in life, she worked many jobs in customer service and as a waitress, where her outgoing personality shone, and she attracted many friends. She was a wonderful cook and baker. She loved preparing big dinners for her family and hosting holiday events. She made the best birthday cakes for her family. She was preceded in death by her parents. Survivors include a brother, Gibby Shell of Kansas City, Kansas; three daughters, Amy Midyett (Matt) of Lawrence, Kansas; Chris Betz (Bryan) of Ottawa, Kansas; and Stephanie Betz (Harold) of Lawrence, Kansas; a son, Adam Betz (Jessica) of Ottawa, Kansas; and seven grandchildren.
