Amy Joan Gjerde, 74, of Louisburg, Kansas, passed away peacefully on Monday, December 30, 2024, at her home surrounded by her family.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, January 11, 2025, at the Hillsdale Presbyterian Church, 22875 W. 255th St, Hillsdale, Kansas 66036. Visitation will be from 11:30 am to 1:00 pm, with Celebration Service at 1:00 pm. A light lunch will be served at the church following the service, and all are invited.
Amy was born on September 2, 1950, in Sioux City, Iowa. She was the daughter of Clifford and Joan (McColley) Gustavson. She attended Central High School is Sioux City, where she met her future husband, Craig Gjerde. After high school, she attended Oklahoma State University, where she achieved a bachelor’s degree in Medical Technology.
Amy married her high school sweetheart, Craig, on August 11, 1972, in Sioux City. From this union they had four children, Kristen, Maren, Laura, and Ryan. They were together for almost 60 years, and happily married for 52 years.
Amy was a member of the Beta Sigma Phi Service Sorority for over 30 years. She was very involved with her kids’ activities, serving as both Boy Scout and Girl Scout troop leader as well as a TSA (Technical Students Association) sponsor and chaperon. Amy was also a member of the Hillsdale Presbyterian Church for many years.
Throughout the years, Amy sang in many church choirs, and bell choirs, taught Sunday school, youth group leader, and served in many other church leadership positions.
She loved to travel and over the years visited every state except Hawaii. A tent, sleeping bags, Coleman stove and a camera was all that she needed. She loved the outdoors and over the years visited most of the National Parks. She took countless photos and slides of all the places she visited.
Her four children were all involved in many sports, and she rarely missed being there to cheer them, and all of their teammates, on.
She is preceded in death by her father, Clifford Gustavson, sister, Susan Uhl, brother, Bruce Gustavson, and brother and sister-in-law Leonard and Carol Gjerde.
Amy is survived by her husband, Craig, four children, Kristen (Joseph) Furnish, Maren (James) Smith, Laura (Ryan) Uhl, and Ryan (Katy) Gjerde, nine grandchildren, two great grandchildren, mother, Joan Gustavson, sisters, Jane Gustavson and Ann (Jim) Schneider, brother-in-law, Steve Uhl, sister-in-law, Kal Gustavson, as well as many nieces, nephews, and extended family members.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made payable to the Hillsdale Presbyterian Church, 22875 W 255th St., Hillsdale, KS 66036
