Amelia Garcia

Amelia Garcia was born on Monday, July 2, 1934, in LeLoup, Kansas. She was the daughter of Juan Hernandez and Pabla (Arias) Garcia. In 1943, Amelia moved to Ottawa, in Franklin County, Kansas, where she made her home, until her death Monday, October 10, 2005, at the age of seventy-one years. She was a cook at Sacred Heart School twenty years, from the late 1950's to late 1970's. She was also a cook at Cedar House Nursing Home and Ottawa Retirement Village, from 1980 to 2000. She was a member of Sacred Heart Church and Altar Society in Ottawa. Amelia was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother whose greatest joy was being a homemaker and caring for her family. She loved all their family gatherings and spending time with her grandchildren. On September 24, 1949, Amelia was united in marriage with Eddie Garcia in Ottawa. He survives of their home. She is also survived by her son, Juan Garcia of Ottawa; daughter, Anna Robertson of Ottawa; three brothers, Carlos Garcia of Ottawa, Encarnacion Garcia of El Paso, Texas, Albert Garcia of Topeka; four sisters, Guadalupe Rios of Kansas City, Kansas, Esther Flores of Kansas City, Kansas, Enriqueta Soriano of Kansas City, Missouri, Aurora Ottinger of Atchison, Kansas; eight grandchildren, Jennifer (Robertson) Kingcannon, Crystal Robertson, Michelle (Robertson) Davis, Angela Jones, Errick Roberts, Jesse Edward Garcia, John J. Garcia, Joseph J. Garcia; and seven great-grandchildren, Darrian Kingcannon, Mirshea Kingcannon, Brayden Alan Davis, Chaiya Margaret Doerhoffer, Carsten Brooklyn Doerhoffer, Zach Roberts, and Abbey DeAnna Garcia. Mrs. Garcia was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Fernando Garcia; two sisters, Juanita Blanco, Natalie Martinez; and one great-grandchild, Alexis Peyton Saubers. SERVICES: Funeral Mass will be held at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Ottawa at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, October 12, 2005. IN STATE: Mrs. Garcia will lie in state at the Dengel & Son Mortuary after 1:00 p.m. Tuesday to the service hour, where a Rosary will be said at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, followed by a family visitation at 7:00 p.m. CEMETERY: Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Ottawa, Kansas. MEMORIALS: The family suggests memorials to Sacred Heart School, c/o Dengel & Son Mortuary, 235 S. Hickory, Ottawa, Kansas 66067.
