Alvin F. Currant

Alvin Fremont Currant was born January 30, 1938, at Overbrook, Kansas. He was the son of Ivan F. and Elva M. (Grammer) Currant. Alvin moved from the Overbrook area to Ottawa, in Franklin County, Kansas, in 1959, where he made his home, until his death Thursday, November 25, 2004, at the age of sixty-six years. He worked as a press operator for Lawrence Paper Company thirty-eight years, retiring in 2002. Alvin served in the United States Army from August of 1961 to August of 1963. He was a member of Grain Mills Union, Lawrence, Kansas. Alvin was an outgoing person who enjoyed people and could be found quite often drinking coffee with his friends at the Horseshoe Caf'. He could repair any small engine, including lawn mowing equipment. He enjoyed traveling and watching and participating in wild west skits. Alvin's greatest joy, however, came from his family and grandchildren he was so proud of, and spending time with them. On August 5, 1961, Alvin was united in marriage with Carolyn Kay Wadkins at Ottawa. She preceded him in death on March 27, 1997. On March 9, 2001, Alvin was united in marriage with Rose Wyatt at Ottawa. She survives of their home. He is also survived by three daughters, Kimberly Hale and her husband, William, of Ottawa, Tamera Griffin of Lee's Summit, Missouri, Cathy Currant of Ottawa; two sons, Ronald F. Currant of Ottawa, Doyle W. Currant of Ottawa; three stepsons, Tom Blankenbeker of Boston Massachusetts, Ron West of Ottawa, Randy West of Sugar City, Colorado; three brothers, his twin, Elvin F. Currant and his wife, Jane, of Ottawa, Merle Currant and his wife, Dorothy of Fort Walton Beach, Florida, Harold Currant and his wife, Mary, of Wentzville, Missouri; sister, Delma Hepner of Lawrence; sister-in-law, Barbara Currant of Lawrence; six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and, many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents; first wife; brother, Dale Currant; and, two grandchildren, Kayley Currant and Dalton Hale. SERVICES: Funeral services will be held at Calvary Baptist Church in Ottawa, 2:00 p.m. Monday, November 29, 2004. OFFICIATING CLERGY: Pastor Colin Richards. IN STATE: Friends may pay their respects to Mr. Currant at Dengel & Son Mortuary, Ottawa, from 2:00 to 9:00 p.m. Saturday and 1:00 to 9:00 p.m. Sunday, where the family will meet with friends 7 to 8:00 Sunday evening. CEMETERY: Highland Cemetery, Ottawa, Kansas. MEMORIALS: The family suggests memorials to Franklin County Cancer Foundation, c/o Dengel & Son Mortuary, 235 S. Hickory, Ottawa, Kansas 66067.
