Allen Alterman

June 17, 1933 — July 18, 2002

Allan Albert Alterman was born June 17, 1933, at Dartian, Missouri. He was the son of Albert W. and Frances (Byers) Alterman. He lived in Ottawa for many years, moving to Kansas City, Kansas, where he made his home the last twenty-five years, until his death Thursday, July 18, 2002, at the age of sixty-nine years. Allan graduated from Pomona High School with the class of 1951. He was a self-employed residential contractor working on home remodeling for several years. He had formerly worked with Standard Improvement Co., Kansas City, Mo. for many years. In the mid 1950's, he worked at the Ottawa Pepsi-Cola Distributorship and, in the late 1950's and early 1960's, he operated a Standard Oil Co. Service Station in Gardner, Kansas. Allan served as a Private First Class in the United States Army from 1953 to 1955, stationed in Germany with the 964th Engineering Battalion Company. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #7026, Kansas City, Kansas. He is survived by his brother, Jon Alterman and his wife, Carol, of Ottawa; several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews; and, special friend, Darlene Peterson. He is preceded in death by his parents and sister, Marilyn Alterman. SERVICES: Funeral services will be held from the Dengel & Son Mortuary 10:00 a.m. Monday, July 22, 2002. OFFICIATING CLERGY: Frank Alterman. IN STATE: Mr. Alterman will lie in state at the Dengel & Son Mortuary after 5:00 p.m. Saturday to the service hour, where the family will meet with friends from 7 to 8:00 Sunday evening. Military honors by V.F.W. Post #5901, Ottawa. CEMETERY: Woodlawn Cemetery, Pomona, Kansas.
