Alice L. Crawford, 82, passed away Friday, April 10, 2015, at her home in Ottawa, Kansas, with her family by her side after a long battle with cancer. Celebration of life services will be held at 11:00 A.M., Friday, April 17, 2015, at First Baptist Church, Ottawa. The family will meet with friends at 10:00 a.m. prior to the service at the church. Alice was born Thursday, June 30, 1932 in Providence, Rhode Island, the daughter of Ellery L. and Lucy G. (Allen) Moore, Sr. She grew up in Hope Valley, Rhode Island and has been a resident of Ottawa since 1950. Alice graduated from Ward High School in Westerly, Rhode Island, with the class of 1950 and attended Ottawa University from 1950 through 1953. She was an Ottawa Head Start teacher for twenty years and worked twenty years at Skyhook in Ottawa. After her retirement, she was a volunteer at Hope House and Head Start. Alice was a member of First Baptist Church in Ottawa for over fifty years, where she belonged to the Mission Possible Circle, taught Sunday school, was involved in hand bell choir, kitchen work, office help, and the Friday Bible study group. Her favorite interests were family, travel, and playing cards. On April 25, 1953, Alice was united in marriage with N. A. Mike Crawford at Santa Fe, New Mexico. He preceded her in death February 20, 1973. She was also preceded in death by her parents; brother, Ellery Moore, Jr.; and two sisters, Catherine Moshier, and Gail Gould. Survivors include her five children, Mary Meissner and husband, Tom of Topeka, Jack Crawford and wife, Sandy of Ottawa, Cindy Crawford of Ottawa, Charles Chuck Crawford of Ottawa, and Sally Fowler and husband, Mike of Ottawa; sister, Ruth Addessi of Shawnee; seven grandchildren, Randi White and her children, Ashlynn and Austin; Ben Meissner and husband, Billy Fleming; Samantha Meissner; Sarah Barker and husband, Michael; and Dustin, Bethany, and Andy Crawford; family friend, Cindy Thomas; many nieces and nephews; and brother-in-law, Herb Crawford and wife, Donna.
