Alice Jean Jones

Alice Jean Jones, 81, of Ottawa, Kansas, passed away Monday, April 3, 2023, at Overland Park Regional Medical Center, Overland Park, Kansas.

Graveside services will be held 11:00 A.M., Monday April 10, 2023, at Princeton Cemetery, Princeton, Kansas. The family will meet friends from 9:30 A.M. to 10:30 A.M., prior to the graveside services at Dengel & Son Mortuary, Ottawa.

Alice was born Friday, May 9, 1941, in Rantoul, Kansas, the daughter of Marion A. and Rozella H. (McCann) Schmoe.

She was a lifelong Franklin County resident living in the Ottawa and Princeton areas.

Alice graduated from Rantoul High School with the class of 1959.

On November 28, 1972, Alice was blessed with the birth of her daughter, Shelly Welch (Cantrell). Shelley preceded her in death on February 17, 2022.

She was united in marriage to Donald Jones in Lubbock, Texas on March 24, 1978.

Alice was employed with H. D. Lee Mercantile Company in Ottawa for many years and was also employed as a cook at the Ottawa Retirement Village for a couple of years.

She enjoyed coloring and working puzzles, but mostly, she loved spending time with her grandchildren.

Alice was preceded in death by her parents; daughter, Shelley Welch; and six siblings, Donnie Nichols, Homer Schmoe, Dorothy Gilpin, Floyd Schmoe, Molly Lee, and Myrtle Bones.

Survivors include husband, Donald Jones; son-in-law, Charles Welch; eight siblings, Hazel Guyett, Virgie Sink, Audra Detwiler, Gladys Butter, Janette Millbern, Dale Schmoe, Merlin Schmoe and George Schmoe; and four grandchildren, Savannah Cantrell, Mckenzie Wallis, Emylee Welch, and Cooper Welch.
