Alice Amelia Roecker

November 13, 1916 — March 18, 2015

Alice Amelia Roecker, age 98, of Ottawa, Kansas, passed away Wednesday, March 18, 2015, at Ransom Memorial Hospital. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, March 25, 2015, at Dengel & Son Mortuary. Family will meet with friends one hour prior to service. Interment will follow at Ruhamah Cemetery, Rantoul, Kansas. Alice was born on Monday, November 13, 1916, in La Harpe, Kansas, the daughter of John Jacob and Jacoba (Van Dam) Bauer. Alice lived in the Peoria area for over forty years. She attended schools in La Harpe, Paola, and Neosho Falls, all in Kansas and Vancouver, Washington. In 1933, Alice was united in marriage with John Holtz. They later divorced. On January 10, 1960, Alice was united in marriage with Ernest Henry Roecker at the Ruhamah Baptist Church in Rantoul, Kansas. Ernest preceded her in death on July 31, 2003. Survivors include four stepsons, Wesley Roecker and wife Beverly of Chanute, Kansas, Robert Roecker of Buena Vista, Colorado, Doyle Roecker and wife Mary Ann of Oregon City, Missouri, Eldon Roecker and wife Betty Ann of Baldwin City, Kansas; twenty-one grandchildren, twenty-eight great grandchildren, and step-daughter-in-law, Sharon Roecker of Colorado. Alice was preceded in death by her husband, Ernest, a daughter, Dixie Lee Spencer in 1986, parents, John Jacob and Jacoba Bauer, brother, Andy Bauer, and two step-sons, LeRoy and Douglas Roecker. She worked as a nurse's aide in nursing homes in Ottawa and Osawatomie. Alice and her husband owned and operated the Peoria Upholstery Shop for thirty-eight years. Alice was a member of Ruhamah Baptist Church where she held several offices and taught children’s Sunday school classes; Aerie Lodge #2700, Fraternal Order of Eagles Auxiliary of Ottawa since 1973, holding many offices and was a Past President; Peoria Plodders and a fifteen year member of the Polka Club. The family suggests memorial contributions to Dixie Lee Spencer Scholarship Fund c/o Dengel & Son Mortuary, 235 S. Hickory, Ottawa, Kansas 66067.
