Alfred William Altic

June 4, 1916 — August 13, 2003

Alfred William Altic was born June 4, 1916, at Ottawa, in Franklin County, Kansas. He was the son of William Penn and Sadie Jane (Wray) Altic. He was a lifelong resident of the Centropolis and Appanoose community and made his home in rural Pomona, in Franklin County, Kansas, until his death Wednesday, August 13, 2003, at the age of eighty-seven years. Alfred graduated from Appanoose High School with the class of 1935. He was a lifelong dairy farmer and stockman and loved farm life. He served on school boards at Appanoose and Kaub Schools and also on the Centropolis Telephone Board. Alfred was an avid sportsman and loved to hunt and fish. He was always at his children's sporting events, and enjoyed watching basketball and golf on T.V. One of his favorite T.V. shows was 'Wheel of Fortune'. Alfred's greatest love was for his family and grandchildren, and also his home, which he appreciated and enjoyed so much. On February 16, 1941, Alfred was united in marriage with Ada Charlene Wrightsman at Centropolis, Kansas. She preceded him in death on December 24, 1998. He is also preceded in death by his parents and sister, Ellen Hirt. He is survived by three sons, Edward Altic and his wife, Terry, of Pomona, Kansas, Robert Altic and his wife, Judy, of Pomona, Richard Altic and his wife, Anita, of Platte City, Missouri; sister, Cecile Anderson of Pomona; eight grandchildren, Douglas Altic, Curtis Altic, Daryl Altic, Bret Altic, Amy Mathews, Sonya Rice, Jared Altic, Dustin Altic; fifteen great-grandchildren; and, several nieces and nephews. SERVICES: Funeral services will be held from the Dengel & Son Mortuary 10:00 a.m. Saturday, August 16, 2003. OFFICIATING CLERGY: Pastor Jim Cain. IN STATE: Mr. Altic will lie in state at the Dengel & Son Mortuary after 9:00 a.m. Friday to the service hour, where the family will meet with friends 7 to 8:00 Friday evening. CEMETERY: Pleasant Hill Cemetery. MEMORIALS: The family suggests memorials to Midland Hospice, c/o Dengel & Son Mortuary, 235 S. Hickory, Ottawa, Kansas 66067.
