Alfred Rudolph Jahn was born on April 4, 1918 in Dresden, Germany. He was the son of George Eugene and Emma Bertha (Ullbrich) Jahn. Alfred lived in Dresden, Germany until the age of thirteen, moving to Brooklyn, New York in 1931, Westfield, New Jersey in 1961,Valatie, New York in 1973, and Edmonton, Alberta in Canada in 1985 before moving to Ottawa in 1988, where he made his home until his death on Thursday, May 31, 2007 at the age of eighty-nine years. He attended schools in Germany and Brooklyn. Alfred worked as a lithographer for Local One Amalgamated Lithograph of America in New York, New York until retiring in 1982. Alfred served in the United States Army from April 30, 1942 until December 24, 1945, attaining the rank of Private First Class. He served in Luzon, New Guinea and Southern Philippines, and received the Asiatic Pacific Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal, World War II Victory Medal, Philippines Liberation Ribbon and American Service Medal. Alfred was a member of Camp Elsinor, in New Jersey and as a youth, was a part of Turn Verein in Brooklyn, New York. He loved camping, photography and tinkering with things. On August 24, 1956 Alfred was united in marriage with Ruth Elizabeth Zemke at Westlock, Alberta in Canada. She survives of their home. He is also survived by daughters, Heidi Anne Cleary and her husband, Steven, of Olathe, Kansas, and Christa Ruth Jahn of Ottawa, Kansas and son, Jochen Alfred Jahn and his wife, Vicki, of Ottawa, Kansas; grandchildren, Jared Brent Cleary, Jessica Brooke Cleary, Carla Ruth Elizabeth Jahn, Jocelyn Marie Elizabeth Jahn, Josiah Jochen Alfred James Jahn, and Johannah Mae Jahn. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Erhart Jahn, and sisters, Irmgard Ross, Frieda Ullrich and Irma Bertha Jahn. SERVICES: Graveside services will be held at Leavenworth National Cemetery in Leavenworth, Kansas 2:30 p.m., Wednesday, June 6, 2007. IN STATE: Mr. Jahn will lie in state at the Dengel & Son Mortuary after 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday and 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday where the family will meet with friends 7 to 8 Tuesday evening.
