Alfred R. Booton

Alfred R. Booton, 98, of Pomona, passed away Thursday, August 29, 2019, at Rock Creek of Ottawa. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M., Tuesday, September 3, 2019, at Dengel & Son Mortuary. Family will meet with friends from 5:00 P.M. to 6:30 P.M., Monday, September 2, 2019, at the mortuary. Interment Woodlawn Cemetery, Pomona, with military honors by Fort Riley Honor Guard. Alfred was born January 26, 1921 in Smith County, Kansas, the son of Clyde and Zadie Gertrude (McClure) Booton. He was raised in Smith County moving to Pomona in 1960. Alfred served in the United States Army from 1942 to 1945 during World War II in the Pacific Theater as part of the Veterinary Corp attaining the rank of Corporal. Alfred was united in marriage to Dolores June Goracke August 29, 1948 at Smith Center. They shared 71 years of love and countless memories. Survivors include his wife, Dolores; two sons, Douglas Booton and wife Cathy of Pomona and Bruce Booton and wife Kim also of Pomona; and sister, Viola Lantis and husband Lester of Omaha, Nebraska; four grandchildren; fourteen great grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, William “Bill” Booton and Lawrence “Red” Booton. Alfred was a carpenter for 36 years working in heavy and highway construction, retiring in 1983. He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church and life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Memorial Post 5901 of Ottawa. Alfred enjoyed hunting, fishing and farming.
