Aleen Rosalee Simmons was born December 14, 1924, at Ottawa, in Franklin County, Kansas. She was the daughter of Everett Belmont and Lola Fern (Moses) Simmons. A lifelong resident, Rosalee made her home in Ottawa, until her death Wednesday, March 10, 2004, at the age of seventy-nine years. Rosalee graduated from Appanoose High School with the class of 1942. She worked as a clerk at the Mann-Bell Drug Store and Kramer Drug Store. She later worked quite a few years at Plattner Industries, all in Ottawa. She was a member of Centropolis Baptist Church. Rosalee loved music, having grown up in a musical atmosphere. She played various instruments, including keyboard, autoharp and juice harp. She shared her talents by singing for church and funerals. In the 1950's, Rosalee, who sang alto, her mother, brother and sister-in-law performed live church broadcasts on KOFO radio station. She also loved animals and greatly enjoyed walking her dog. Another interest of Rosalee's was politics, and she kept herself well informed by following the news. Miss Simmons is survived by her brother, Rex Simmons and his wife, Shirley, of Ottawa; three nieces, Susan Gammon, Laurie Simmons, Pamela Mills; two nephews, Rodney Simmons and Greg Makin. She is preceded in death by her parents; sister, Margaret J. Makin; and, nephew, Roger Simmons. SERVICES: Funeral services will be held from the Dengel & Son Mortuary 2:00 p.m. Saturday, March 13, 2004. OFFICIATING CLERGY: Pastor Rick Randall, Centropolis Baptist Church. IN STATE: Miss Simmons will lie in state at the Dengel & Son Mortuary after 11:00 a.m. Friday to the service hour, where the family will meet with friends 1:00 p.m. Saturday to service time.
