Albert Walter Swallow

Albert Walter Swallow was born on Monday, March 19, 1917, in Pomona, Kansas. He was the son of Elmer W. and Nettie (Lowell) Swallow. A lifelong resident, Albert made his home in Pomona, in Franklin County, Kansas, until his death on Saturday, January 19, 2008, at the age of ninety years. Albert attended Boyd Grade School and graduated from Pomona High School with the class of 1937. He and his wife farmed in the Pomona and Wellsville area until 1945. He then became an independent building contractor, retiring in 1981. Following retirement, Albert was very busy with small jobs and his hobby doing beautiful scroll saw work. He and Mary attended craft shows and showed their many talents. They greatly enjoyed traveling and visiting friends and family. He was a devoted member of Pomona United Methodist Church, serving many years on the official board. He was also a charter member of the Pomona Lions Club, and served eleven years on the Pomona Grade School Board. On June 17, 1940, Albert was united in marriage with Mary Frances Coltrane in Ottawa, Kansas. They celebrated 62 years of marriage. She preceded him in death on March 8, 2002. He is also preceded in death by his parents; two sons, Larry Swallow, Don Swallow; daughter-in-law, Betty Swallow; several brothers; and one sister. He is survived by his daughter-in-law, Doris Swallow of Topeka, Kansas; sister, Ethel Cade of Emporia, Kansas; five grandchildren, Steve Swallow, Dave Swallow, Dan Swallow, Bryan Swallow, Deanna Estenson; eleven great-grandchildren, Aaron Swallow, Ryan Swallow, Brad Swallow, Kari Swallow, Craig Swallow, Karyn Swallow, Josh Estenson, Tyler Estenson, Chelsea Estenson, McKenzie Swallow, Jacob Swallow; and one great great-grandchild, Hayden J. Swallow. SERVICES: Funeral services will be held at Pomona United Methodist Church at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, January 25, 2008. IN STATE: Friends may pay their respects to Mr. Swallow at Dengel & Son Mortuary after 9:00 a.m. Thursday to the service hour, where the family will meet with friends 7 to 8:00 Thursday evening.
