Albert Herman “Dusty” Reichard was born on Friday, August 1, 1947. He was the son of Wayne and Edna (Stelter) Reichard. Dusty was born and raised in the Williamsburg/Homewood area, also living in Emporia, Kansas from 1965 to 1970. Following his military service, he moved to the Greenwood area, south of Pomona, Kansas, where he made his home until his death on Wednesday, April 29, 2009, at the age of sixty-one years. Dusty graduated from Williamsburg High School with the class of 1965. He received his Bachelor of Science Degree in Education from Kansas Teacher’s College and was currently updating his credentials from Emporia State University to teach high school science. He was a man with strong work ethics. From 1974 to 2005, he worked as a lab foreman at Forbes Field in PMEL (Precision Measurement Electronics Laboratory), calibrating airplane equipment. In 2005, he began substitute teaching in West Franklin, Ottawa, Central Heights and Lyndon schools. He served in the United States Air Force from 1970 to 1974, attaining the rank of Sgt. Dusty was a member of Rock Creek Church of Christ, where he taught Sunday School. He was head of Greenwood Community Center; served as Pomona School Board President; was a volunteer firefighter; and storm spotter for Pomona. He was a member of Franklin County 4-H; fair judge in numerous fairs throughout the area; and forestry judge for the Kansas State Fair. On Sunday, August 25, 1968, Dusty was united in marriage with Lorraine Nitcher in Williamsburg United Methodist Church. She survives of their home. He is also survived by his daughter, Jennifer Weaver and her husband, Mark, of Garnett, KS; son, Danny Reichard and his wife, Jenny, of Baldwin City, KS; two brothers, Doyle Reichard and his wife, Darlene, of Williamsburg, KS, Dale “Buzz” Reichard and his wife, Pat, of Garnett, KS; three sisters, Betty Sullivan and her husband, Leonard, of Wichita, KS, Elaine Gilliland and her husband, Rex, of Overbrook, KS, Jean Higbie and her husband, Doug, of Williamsburg, KS; five grandchildren, Shawn Weaver, Shelby Weaver, Garnett, KS; Kiley Herman, Alyssa Reichard, Gunnar Reichard, of Baldwin City, KS; and numerous nieces and nephews. Dusty dearly loved his family. He is preceded in death by his parents. SERVICES: Funeral services will be held from Rock Creek Church of Christ at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, May 4, 2009. IN STATE: Friends may pay their respects to Mr. Reichard at Dengel & Son Mortuary in Ottawa from 1:00 to 5:00 p.m. Saturday and 1:00 to 9:00 p.m. Sunday, where the family will meet with friends 6:00 to 7:00 Sunday evening. CEMETERY: Greenwood Cemetery, Franklin County, Kansas.
