Agnes Lavina Brockus

March 8, 1913 — April 1, 2002

Agnes Lavina Brockus was born March 8, 1913, at Richmond, Kansas. She was the daughter of James Albert and Edith Mae (Messenger) Morris. A lifelong resident of Franklin County, Kansas, she made her home in Richmond, until her death Monday, April 1, 2002, at the age of eighty-nine years. She graduated from Richmond High School with the class of 1933. Agnes was a lifelong homemaker and also active in their farming operation. She worked as a cook at Ottawa University from 1964 until the mid 1970's and at Central Heights School. She was a member of Richmond United Methodist Church and United Methodist Women. A loving, caring person, Agnes truly enjoyed her family, watching her grandchildren's sports and other activities, and visiting with her many friends. She enjoyed music and loved to dance. She also enjoyed embroidery and quilting. In fact, Agnes made quilts for all her grandchildren. On December 18, 1935, Agnes was united in marriage with Richard Merle Brockus at Ottawa. He preceded her in death April 26, 1996. She is also preceded in death by her parents; infant son, Neil Eugene Brockus; five brothers, Neil Morris, Victor Morris, Arthur Morris, Glade Morris, Edwin Morris; and six sisters, Veta Vallier, Alta Wantland, Gertrude Lucas, Freda Myers, Nora Carey and Marie Morris. She is survived by her son, Eldon Brockus and his wife, Patty, of Topeka; three daughters, Phyllis Rossman and her husband, Art, of Richmond, Janice McIntosh of Princeton, Cathy Parsons and her husband, Dennis, of Princeton; two grandsons, David Rossman and Kenny Teter; six granddaughters, Terri Kimball, Brenda Wadkins, Trudy Kleitz, Kristi Goebel, Shawna Parsons, Ayla Brockus; eight great-grandsons, Shane Teter, Kelby Wadkins, Alex Kimball, Dylan Kleitz, Garrett Kleitz, Seth Rossman, Tristyn Goebel, Nathan Patterson; and, four great-granddaughters, Angela Teter, Jennifer Wadkins, Whitney Kimball, and Erin Rossman. SERVICES: Funeral services will be held from Richmond United Methodist Church 10:00 a.m. Thursday, April 4, 2002. OFFICIANT: Rev. Marjorie Cox, Richmond United Methodist Church. IN STATE: Mrs. Brockus will lie in state from 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. Wednesday at Dengel & Son Mortuary, where the family will meet with friends from 7:30 to 8:30 Wednesday evening.
