Wilda I. Peterkord, age 86, passed away Wednesday, April 24, 2013, at Overland Park Regional Medical Center. Wilda was born on December 23, 1926, on the family farm west of Paola, KS, and later moved into town. Over her lifetime, Wilda worked at the fountain counter at the local drug store (where she met her future husband) and Miami County Courthouse in Paola, Shawnee Mission School District cafeteria in Overland Park, KS, Smith and Loveless in Lenexa, KS, and Technical Sales Associates in Lenexa, Overland Park and Olathe, KS. On May 5, 1949, Wilda married George W. Peterkord of Greeley, KS, at the Methodist Church in Olathe, KS. They were residents of Paola until 1965 when the family relocated to Overland Park, KS. Wilda was preceded in death by her husband, George; parents, Ada and Cyril Kice of Paola; sister and her husband, Maxine and Cecil Prentice of Paola/Overland Park, KS; sister-in-law, Phyllis Kice of Paola. Surviving her are son, John Peterkord of Lenexa, KS; daughter, Martha Phillips of Kansas City, KS; granddaughter Jennifer Phillips (Ben Alig) and great grandson, Parker Alig of Lawrence, KS; granddaughter Kelly Hall (Jerome Hall) and great granddaughters Kinsey and Skyler Hall of Danville, VA; brother and wife, Bill and Linda Kice of Louisburg, KS; cousins Leona Oyster (Everett Oyster, deceased) and Nadine Thresher (Lew L. Thresher, deceased); and many nieces and nephews. Wilda was a very loving, caring person and devoted to her family who always came first with her. She showed her love through food and could often be found in her kitchen cooking for her family and baking ("Great Grandma cookies", 7-minute frosted angel food cakes, holiday cookies, homemade rolls/bread and her secret ingredient pancakes). Memorial contributions may be made to the United Methodist Church of Paola, KS or Plum Creek United Methodist Church of Paola, KS.
