Wayne R. Swank, 77, of Pomona, Kansas, died Wednesday, June 26, 2013 at Baldwin Healthcare & Rehabilitation Center, Baldwin, Kansas. Graveside Services will be held at 10:30 A.M. Friday, June 28, 2013 at Highland Cemetery, Ottawa, Kansas. Friends may pay their respects to Mr. Swank at Dengel & Son Mortuary from 5:00 to 9:00 P.M. Thursday, June 27, 2013. Wayne was born on Tuesday, June 2, 1936 in Ottawa, Kansas. He was the son of Roy and Helen (Sassaman) Swank. They preceded him in death. He was a lifelong Franklin County resident. He attended Elm Grove and Fouts Rural Schools and Ottawa High School. On April 2, 1972 Wayne was united in marriage to Virginia Bell in Williamsburg, Kansas. She preceded him in death on August 15, 1993. He was united in marriage to Arlene Berry-Talbott on April 18, 2001 in Williamsburg. She preceded him in death on January 31, 2005. Survivors include two brothers, Robert Swank and wife Rose of Ottawa, and Elbert Swank of Williamsburg; sister, Alice Huyett and husband Lloyd of Topeka. For over thirty-two years Wayne worked for Farmland Industries Nitrogen Plant in Lawrence. During his employment he was a boiler operator for twenty-two years retiring June 30, 1994. From April 17, 1956 to April 16, 1959, Wayne served in the United States Army and achieved the rank of Specialist 4. An online Guest Book is available at www.dengelmortuary.com.
