Thelma Mae Broers

March 18, 1923 — July 22, 2002

Thelma Mae Broers was born March 18, 1923, at Knox City, Missouri. She was the daughter of Russell Thomas and Minnie Clyde Morton. When Thelma was in the second grade, she moved with her family to Ottawa, in Franklin County, Kansas, where she made her home until her death Monday, July 22, 2002, at the age of seventy-nine years. Thelma graduated from Ottawa High School with the Class of 1941. She was a lifelong homemaker. Before her marriage, she was employed at the defense plant in DeSoto and then at H.D. Lee in Ottawa. She was a member of Rock Creek Church of Christ in Ottawa. Thelma always loved being a farmer's wife. She enjoyed all her homemaking skills, especially, crocheting. Her creations will make lovely keepsakes for her family. On November 25, 1949, Thelma was united in marriage with Lowell C. Broers at Gardner, Kansas. He survives of their home. She is also survived by two daughters, Nancy Mae Coons and her husband, Nathan, of Ottawa, and Anita Marie Due and her husband, David, of Kansas City, Missouri; two grandsons, Marc Coons and his wife, Brandy, and Shane Coons and his wife, Jerri; great-grandsons, Camdyn Robert Coons and Avry Wade Coons; great-granddaughter, Cara Louise Coons; sister, Dorothy Davis and her husband, Joe, of Bethany, Oklahoma; and, two brothers, Russell Morton and his wife, Iris, of Newton, Kansas, and Jimmie Morton and his wife, Barbara, of Ottawa. She is preceded in death by her parents; son, Dale Lynn Broers; brother, Forrest Morton; and, sister, Mary Collins. SERVICES: Graveside services will be held 10:00am Friday, July 26, 2002 at Highland Cemetery. OFFICIATING CLERGY: Rev. Bill Hensley, Rock Creek Church of Christ IN STATE: Mrs. Broers will lie in state at the Dengel & Son Mortuary after 5:00 p.m. Wednesday to the service hour, where the family will meet with friends from 7-8:00 p.m. Thursday evening. CEMETERY: Highland Cemetery, Ottawa, Kansas.
