Shirley Marie Wilson

Shirley Marie Wilson, 88, of Ottawa, Kansas, passed away Thursday, March 7, 2024, at Rock Creek of Ottawa, Ottawa, Kansas.

Cremation is planned. Visitation is scheduled April 6, 2024 at 1:00 pm followed by a Celebration of Life at 2:00 pm at Kidwell Garber Funeral Home in Versailles, MO. A favorite memory of Shirley is welcome, either written or shared at the celebration of life.

Shirley was born Thursday, May 9, 1935, in Versailles, Missouri, the daughter of James Emery and Gladys (Croy) Chamberlain.

She lived in Gravois Mills, Missouri before moving to Ottawa, Kansas in 2007.

Shirley graduated Versailles High School with the class of 1953.

In 1954, she was united in marriage to William E. Bridges in Versailles, Missouri. He preceded her in death on October 9, 1991. Shirley married Ezra E. “Gene” Wilson on November 3, 1976. He survives of the home.

Shirley worked as an administrative assistant for ten years during the 1960s and 1970s for Versailles High School. She loved that job and being involved with so many kids over the years. She’s mentioned many times that those were the happiest years. She also worked for several years as an administrative assistant in Kansas City until she retired and returned to Gravois Mills, Missouri.

She loved music, dancing, shopping and all things bling. Shirley loved family get-togethers and playing games, but most of all, laughing. Her laugh was contagious. She especially loved her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Shirley was preceded in death by two sisters Norma Jean Marriott and Louise Moore.

Survivors include husband Gene; daughters Debra Heathman and Susan Callaghan (William) all of Ottawa; four grandchildren William Brett Callaghan (Jessica), Amanda Lea Agado, Sarah Marie Gerleman (Garrett), and Curt Patrick Callaghan (Linley); thirteen great grandchildren; and one great-great grandchild.

The family suggests memorial contributions to Prairie Paws Animal Shelter c/o Dengel & Son Mortuary, 235 S. Hickory, Ottawa, Kansas 66067. Shirley was an animal lover and would be happy to see all animals in a loving home.
