Shirley J. Bowling, 82, of Ottawa, Kansas died on Wednesday, May 28, 2008 at Ransom Memorial Hospital in Ottawa, Kansas. She was the daughter of Narva Sllers and Emma (Sassaman) Sellers. She was born on Thursday, August 13, 1925, in Ottawa, Kansas. She grew up in Princeton, Kansas and later lived in Prestonville, Kansas, moving to Ottawa in 1946. Shirley attended grade school at the Ohio City School in Ohio Township near Princeton. She then graduated from Ottawa High School with the class of 1942. She was a lifelong homemaker and mother of three boys. She also worked for 22 years for Mode O Day as a member of the International Ladies Garment Workers Union Local # 453, retiring at the age of 62. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Ottawa and was a long time member and former President of the Sunflower Quilters Guild of Ottawa. On June 20, 1943, Shirley was united in marriage with Norman Glenn Bowling at his parents` farm in Prestonville. They enjoyed 64 years of marriage together. He survives of their home. SERVICES: Funeral services will be held from the Dengel & Son Mortuary 10:00 a.m., Saturday, May 31, 2008. IN STATE: Mrs. Bowling will lie in state at the Dengel & Son Mortuary after 2:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Friday. Family will meet with friends at 9:00 a.m., Saturday prior to the service. CEMETERY: Highland Cemetery. MEMORIALS: The family suggests memorials to Bea Martin Peck Animal Shelter c/o Dengel & Son Mortuary, 235 S. Hickory, Ottawa, Kansas 66067.
