Shirley E. Hardesty, age 83 of Ottawa, Kansas, died Wednesday, February 15, 2012 at Christian Care Cottage in Ottawa, KS. She was born on Friday, February 1, 1929 in Kansas City, Missouri, the daughter of Earl and Elizabeth (Fenton) Morton. She has resided in Ottawa, Kansas and also in Edwardsville, Kansas. Shirley graduated from Ottawa High School. Shirley worked for Security Bank of Kansas City, Kansas as an executive assistant, and Montgomery Ward’s in Kansas City, Kansas as a loading dock operator for several years. She was a life time member of VFW Post #5901 Ladies Auxiliary of Ottawa, Kansas and also VFW Post #5153 of Kansas City, Kansas. She was a past District President of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary. Shirley was also very dedicated to VA Hospitals. Shirley was united in marriage with Glen Hardesty in Ottawa, Kansas. They were later divorced. She is survived by her: Son-Ronald Hardesty of Pittsfield, Massachusetts; Son-in-law- Jim Simons of Kansas City, Kansas; Granddaughter- Jamie Hardesty and her fiancé, Chad Bush, of Osage City, Kansas; Granddaughter- Esther Hardesty of Southwick, Massachusetts; Grandson- Kyle Bentley and his fiancée, Heather Johnson, of Ottawa, Kansas; Grandson- Caleb Hardesty of Southwick, Massachusetts; Gt.Grandchildren- Jalene, Michala, and Dylan of Osage City, Kansas; Gt.Grandchild- Caleb of Ottawa, Kansas and Her beloved Cat- Billy Ray. She is preceded in death by her: Husband-Glen Hardesty; Parents-Earl and Elizabeth Morton; Daughter-Rita (Hardesty) Simons; Granddaughter- Jessica Guyett; Best friend- Lynn and Several of her kitty cats. SERVICES: Memorial Services will be held at Dengel & Son Mortuary in Ottawa at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, February 21, 2012 CEMETERY: Inurnment will be held at a later date. MEMORIALS: The family suggests memorial contributions be made to VFW Post #5901 Auxiliary or the VFW Post #5153 Auxiliary or the Ottawa Christian Care Cottage c/o Dengel & Son Mortuary, 235 S.
