Richard Alan Smith

Richard Alan “Rick” Smith, 59, of Ottawa, Kansas, passed away Friday, January 15, 2021, at AdventHealth Ottawa. Memorial services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Friday, January 29, 2021, at the Ottawa Memorial Auditorium, 301 S. Hickory, Ottawa. A private burial will be held later at Highland Cemetery. Rick was born January 12, 1962, at Ottawa, the son of Lawrence L. “Larry” and Alberta (Mudd) Smith. He was a lifelong Franklin County resident moving in 1987 to Ottawa from Pomona. He graduated from Pomona High School with the class of 1980. Rick was united in marriage to Rebecca “Becky” Bell February 7, 1998, in Belton, Missouri. They were happily married nearly 23 years and had three children, Britney, Matthew, and Christopher. Rick was employed for 33 years with Walmart Supercenter as an overnight stocker and assistant manager retiring in June 2016. He was a member of the Ottawa Bowling Association and Ottawa’s Traveling Bowling Team for many years traveling to national tournaments. Rick also enjoyed watching KC Chiefs. Above all, family and friends were his priority and he always looked forward to the time they spent together. He was preceded in death by his mother, Alberta Smith. Survivors include his wife Becky Smith of the home; three children, Britney Smith, Matthew Smith, and Christopher Smith all of Ottawa; father, Larry Smith of Pomona; and brother, Randy (Joyce) Smith of Ottawa.
