Raymond W. Ray Gooding, age 77, of Williamsburg, Kansas, died Tuesday, September 29, 2009, at Olathe Medical Center. He was born on Thursday, August 25, 1932, in Pawnee Station, Kansas. He was the son of Andy Thorton and Bertha Lena (Schenkel) Gooding. He grew up in the Hiattville community, moving to the Stark area of the rural Erie community until 1962, moving to Iola, Ottawa, Garnett and Williamsburg in 1985. EDUCRay graduated from Stark High School with the class of 1950. He was employed by J. E. Carlson from 1952 to 1962. He drove a truck for Beatrice Food Company from 1962 to 1974. From 1974 to retirement in 1994, he was a driver and salesman for Bennett’s Ice Cream. He and Lucille were the 50-59 Grill owners from 1976 to 1981. From 2001 to present, he was the maintenance employee for Prairie Star Ranch, the Catholic Church Camp at Williamsburg. Ray served on the Williamsburg City Council six years; was a Cub Scout Leader for First United Methodist Church Pack of Ottawa; was active in the Jayhawk Booster Club, Williamsburg; and a Bowling Association member. On Friday, October 3, 1952, Ray was united in marriage with Lucille Handrich in Chanute, Kansas. She survives of their home. He is survived by his: Wife-Lucille (Handrich) Gooding of the home Daughter-Cindy Gilmer of Hutchinson, Kansas Daughter-Tena Goudreau of Williamsburg, Kansas Daughter-Teresa Gooding of Williamsburg, Kansas Son-William “Bill” Gooding of Williamsburg, Kansas Son-Richard Gooding of Williamsburg, Kansas Son-Mark Gooding of Garnett, Kansas Sister-Maxine Cuppet of Savonburg, Kansas Grandchildren-Seventeen including John Gooding and Ivan Ray Gooding, Jr. who were raised by Ray and Lucille, following the deaths of their parents Great-Grandchildren-Twenty-two He is preceded in death by his: Father-Andy Thorton Gooding Mother-Bertha Lena (Schenkel) Gooding Son-Ivan Ray Gooding, Sr. Son-David Gooding Sister-Ethel Turner Sister-Pearl Shorter SERVICES: Memorial services will be held at Williamsburg United Methodist Church at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, October 2, 2009.
