Peggy L. Spain, 88, of Ottawa, KS, died on Monday, November 27th, 2023. She was born in Hamilton, KS on March 2, 1935 to Waymond and Helen (Purkeypile) Buffington. She grew up in Eureka and was united in marriage to William A. Spain. For many years, she worked at J.C. Penney’s in Eureka and Butler, Missouri. She later moved to Ottawa, Kansas where she cleaned houses with her sister.
Peggy was preceded in death by her parents, two sons, Joshua VanBuskirk and Bradley Spain and three siblings, Patsy Sanders, Priscilla Weatherbee and Phillip Buffington. She is survived by her husband William Spain of the home, daughters Kathy Spain of Wichita and Kristy Turner (Steve) of Raymore, Missouri, two siblings, Phyllis Howard of Arkansas City and Paul Buffington of Medford, Oklahoma, three grandchildren, Chad Spain of Wichita, Sarah Yates of Blue Springs, Missouri and Alison Casset of Aurora, Colorado, six great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild. Peggy was devoted to her family and helpful to all who were in need.
Cremation has been planned and a private remembrance will be held at a later date.
The family suggests that memorials may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association – Heart of America Chapter, 3846 W. 75th St., Prairie Village, KS 66208.
