Paula Elizabeth Weir, 84, of rural Osawatomie, passed away on Thursday, November 9, 2023, at her home.
Paula Elizabeth (Bruce) Weir was born November 25, 1938 to Mildred (Erickson) and James D. Bruce in Kansas City, MO. She attended Norman Elementary and Westport High School. Paula loved riding streetcars downtown to watch movies and go on adventures with friends, family, and especially her younger sister and great friend Judy.
After graduation from Westport High School in 1956, she went to Central Missouri State University (CMSU) in Warrensburg, MO where she majored in Speech Pathology and graduated in 1960. More importantly, Paula established friendships that lasted a lifetime.
On August 11, 1961, Paula married Robert (Bob) Weir.
On April 9, 1962, the couple welcomed Lisa (Weir) Benton followed by Robert (Rob) Weir on September 30, 1965 and Erin Weir on June 25, 1969.
In 1970, Paula and Bob established Weir Auto Parts in Osawatomie, KS. While raising children, Paula also helped in the store. Sitting at the counter, Paula learned the history of Osawatomie and forged forever friendships.
Paula and Bob later owned and operated the Sears store in Osawatomie. Once again, she enjoyed having a cup of coffee and chatting over day's events and the "goings on" of the customers and employees. One of Paula's most endearing qualities was
her ability listen and recall birthdays, anniversaries and other stories of her friends' and acquaintances' history.
She found her passion in her final career with Parents as Teachers (PAT). As a teacher, Paula loved working with families in her community. Her commitment to young families did not go unnoticed; the love she gave she more than received tenfold. She was grateful for her community.
Paula was preceded in death by her parents Mildred and James Bruce, her sister Judy Goodhue and her daughter Erin Weir.
She is survived by her husband Bob Weir of the home, Lisa and Kerry Benton (Katy TX), Rob and Shelly Weir (Kansas City MO) and grandchildren Drew Benton, Amy Benton, Jordan Benton, Nicole Benton, Dylan Weir and Zoe Weir.
A celebration of Paula's life will be announced at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Osawatomie Public Library or Oz Food Pantry.
