Owen Ortho Heidner was born September 4, 1914, in Franklin County, Kansas. He was the son of Benjamin Franklin and Alice Pearl (Oakman) Heidner. A lifelong Franklin County, Kansas resident, he made his home in Ottawa, until his death Tuesday, September 17, 2002, at the age of eighty-eight years. Owen graduated from Ottawa High School with the class of 1932. He was a lifelong farmer, retiring in 1968. Also, he and his father owned and operated Heidner Service Station in Richter, Kansas, from 1932 to 1948. Mr. Heidner was a member of Richter United Methodist Church. He was an avid baseball and basketball fan. He also enjoyed gardening and mowing the yard and raising purebred Angus cows. In his spare time, he enjoyed watching 'Price is Right', 'Who Wants To Be a Millionaire', 'Jerry Springer', and 'Judge Judy'. First and foremost, he enjoyed his family and visiting with his many friends. On June 26, 1940, Owen was united in marriage with Mary Alice Nelson in Franklin County, Kansas. They divorced in 1951. Owen is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Shirley Mae and Charles Fritts, of Ottawa; granddaughter, Sherry Lea Sharp, of Ottawa; and, great-granddaughter, Adreyanna Macayla Sharp. He is preceded in death by his parents. SERVICES: Funeral services will be held from the Dengel & Son Mortuary 10:00 a.m. Saturday, September 21, 2002. OFFICIATING CLERGY: Pastor Terry Sue Wiliford. IN STATE: Mr. Heidner will lie in state at the Dengel & Son Mortuary after 5:00 p.m. Thursday to the service hour, where the family will meet with friends 7 to 8:00 Friday evening. CEMETERY: Highland Cemetery, Ottawa, Kansas. MEMORIALS: The family suggests memorials to Richter United Methodist Church or Midland Hospice, c/o Dengel & Son Mortuary, 235 S. Hickory, Ottawa, Kansas 66067.
