Myrna Opal Johnson was born October 4, 1911, at Homewood, Kansas. She was the daughter of Clyde Earl and Jennie (Morris) Bethell. A lifelong Franklin County, Kansas resident, Myrna made her home in the Greenwood community, Pomona, and Ottawa, until her death Saturday, May 8, 2004, at the age of ninety-two years. Myrna graduated from Appanoose High School with the class of 1930. She was a lifelong homemaker. She also worked several winters in the early 1950's at Willis Nursery in Ottawa. Mrs. Johnson was the last founding member of the original Centropolis Baptist Church. She was also a member of the Pomona Flower Club, which she and her sister-in-law organized. Myrna enjoyed various types of craftwork over the years and raising flowers. She was very devoted to her family. She greatly enjoyed their family gatherings and had so much fun riding mules with her husband in parades. She was also devoted to her church, which was so very important to Myrna. While living in the Greenwood community, she taught Sunday School and Bible School at Greenwood Baptist and was also church janitor and member of the ladies church group. After moving to Pomona, she taught Sunday School and Bible School at Centropolis and was a member of the ladies church group. Each Sunday, she made the flower arrangement for the altar. On February 25, 1934, Myrna was united in marriage with Clovis Emery Johnson at Ottawa. He preceded her in death on November 1, 1999. She is also preceded in death by her parents; sister, Wilma Hull; and granddaughter, Teresa McCann. She is survived by her daughter, Marie Sims and her husband, Donald, of Ottawa; son, Marion Johnson and his wife, Beverly, of Wichita; sister, Erma Dehn of Topeka; two granddaughters, Vicki Stainbrook and Diane Greenleaf; grandson, Mark Johnson; seven great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren. SERVICES: Funeral services will be held from the Dengel & Son Mortuary 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, May 12, 2004. OFFICIATING CLERGY: Pastor Rick Randall. IN STATE: Mrs. Johnson will lie in state at the Dengel & Son Mortuary after 2:00 p.m. Tuesday to the service hour, where the family will meet with friends 7 to 8:00 Tuesday evening.
