Melva L. Black, 69, passed away Saturday, July 26, 2014, at her home in Belton, Missouri, with her family by her side. Graveside services will be held at 10:00 A.M., Thursday, July 31, 2014, at Princeton Cemetery, Princeton, Kansas. Melva was born Thursday, July 26, 1945, in Kansas City, Missouri, the daughter of Melvin Henry and Edna Evelyn (Gard) Williamson. She grew up in Oskaloosa, Kansas moving to Lawrence in 1964. Melva and her husband lived in Ottawa from 1999 to 2004 when they moved to Belton, Missouri. She graduated from Oskaloosa High School with the class of 1963. Melva was united in marriage with Larry Dale Black October 3, 1977 at Lawrence, Kansas. He survives of the home. Survivors also include her two children, LeAnna Marie Grammer and husband Wayne of McLouth, Kansas, and Richard Allan Davenport and wife Shelly of Osage Beach, Missouri; five grandchildren, Ashley Nicole Cote’, and Allan, Joshua, Grayson and Molly Davenport; three great grandchildren, Trenton Linn and Aaliyah Paige Cote’ and Emma Davenport; and two sisters, Judith Ann Good of Princeton, and Edna Mary Abbott of Grandview, Missouri. She was preceded in death by her parents; and grandson, Damien Linn Grammer. She was a devoted homemaker, working in retail sales, and also operated her own quilting business from her home. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Lawrence and Long Arm Quilters Association. She attended Westminster Presbyterian Church while in Ottawa.
