Mary Sue Johnson was born December 6, 1914, at Ottawa, in Franklin County, Kansas. She was the daughter of Clarence Lee and Nellie Chloe (Rees) Howard. A lifelong resident, she made her home in Ottawa, until her death Tuesday, September 3, 2002, at the age of eighty-seven years. She graduated from Ottawa High School with the class of 1932. Mary Sue was a lifelong homemaker and worked hard helping her husband with their dairy farm. She was also instrumental in bringing rural water to Franklin County. She was a member of First United Methodist Church in Ottawa. She really loved being outside and enjoyed caring for her flower gardens. She created many beautiful flower arrangements. On April 8, 1936, Mary Sue was united in marriage with Harold E. Johnson at Ottawa. He preceded her in death on December 12, 1974. She is also preceded in death by her parents; two sons, Rex Johnson, Michael Johnson; five brothers, John K. Howard, Murl Howard, Dean C. Howard, William 'Rex' Howard, Roy 'Glen' Howard; two infant sisters, Rita Howard, Nelda Howard; and, one granddaughter. She is survived by her daughter, Joyce Johnson; eight grandchildren; and, two great-grandchildren. SERVICES: Family and friends will meet for graveside services at 2:00 p.m. Friday, September 6, 2002, at Highland Cemetery. OFFICIANT: Pastor Steven Iwersen.
