Mary Mae Denniston, 88, of Ottawa, Kansas, passed away Saturday, October 28, 2023, at Rock Creek of Ottawa.
Family will greet friends from 5:30–7:30 pm, Monday, November 6, 2023, at Dengel & Son Mortuary, Ottawa, Kansas.
Private family burial will be held at a later date.
Mary was born August 22, 1935 in Rantoul, Kansas. She was the daughter of Harold and Olive (Hogelin) Hargrove.
She spent most of her life in Franklin County and Ottawa, living in the Lyndon area during the late 1990s to mid-2000s.
Mary attended Pleasant Ridge Grade School and Rantoul Rural High School, graduating with the class of 1953.
She was united in marriage on September 6, 1953, in Ottawa, Kansas to Dale Denniston. He preceded her in death on June 10, 2021.
Mary was employed at Scott’s Drive-in, Bennett Creamery, H.D. Lee, and King Radio. Mary and Dale owned and operated Dale’s Body Shop in Ottawa from 1976-1998.
She enjoyed working, sewing, growing flowers, square dancing, spending time with her grandchildren, and trips to Branson.
Mary was preceded in death by husband Dale; parents; daughter Brenda Ball; sister Frankie Middlebusher; and her beloved wiener dog “Daisy”.
Survivors include sons Terry (Marsha) Denniston of Renner, South Dakota and Russell Denniston of Ottawa, Kansas; son-in-law Rod Ball of Rantoul, Kansas; six grandchildren Mark (April) Ball of Rantoul, Kansas, Melissa St. John (Steve) of Ottawa, Kansas, Stephanie (Britt) Nelson of Lakeville, Minnesota, Carey (Jason) Cornett of Carthage, Missouri, Andrea (Seth Guzovsky) Denniston of Floyd, Virginia, and Trisha (Kyle) Johnson of Garretson, South Dakota; and twelve great grandchildren.
