Mary Lou Pitts, age 72, of Ottawa, Kansas, passed away on Friday, September 29, 2023, at Lawrence Memorial Hospital.

Celebration of life will be held from 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm, Sunday, October 22, 2023, at The Little Red School House, 991 S 875 Rd, Council Grove, Kansas 66846.

Mary was born on Wednesday, May 9, 1951, in Council Grove, Kansas, the second of six children to Eldon and Bonnie (Ziegenhirt) Sisson. She grew up and went to school in the Council Grove area. Mary graduated from Council Grove High School with the class of 1970.

She spent her early adult years living and working in Council Grove. Mary worked at Morris County Hospital for over 20 years as a cook. She moved to Ottawa in the early 2000’s, and spent the rest of her life here. After moving to Ottawa, she worked at many of the Fraternity and Sorority houses at Baker University, as a chef, before retiring in 2013.

Mary loved to cook and bake, especially for her friends and family. She made the best potato salad, potato soup and homemade fried chicken. Mary enjoyed watching QVC and the Food Network in her spare time. Family was the most important part of her life. Mary enjoyed many summer camping trips to Council Grove and Pomona Lake, with her family.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Eldon and Bonnie Sisson, and brother-in-law, Les Kremeier.

Mary is survived by her daughter, Shannon (Bret) Altic, three grandchildren, Jordyn Altic, Logan Altic and Lane Altic, one great grandchild, Jentry Altic, and five siblings, Glen (Cindy) Sisson, Leona (Kenny) Wirtz, Judy (Terry) Kidd, Jean Kremeier, and Jeanette (Eric) Maas.
