Mary Frances McDougal, age 96, of Paola, KS, formerly of rural Lane, KS, passed away October 26, 2018 at North Point Skilled Nursing and Rehab Center, Paola, KS. Mary was born March 2, 1922 at Blue Mound, Kansas. She was the second of three children born to Robert Lacey and Hazel Oma (Coffelt) Curtis. Mary grew up in Blue Mound until her father's passing in 1940. At that time, she moved to Osawatomie and lived with her aunt and uncle Bessie and Basil Coffelt and their son Dean. Mary graduated from Osawatomie High School with the Class of 1941. She then attended secretarial school. Mary and Donald Eugene McDougal were united in marriage on October 31, 1942 at Kansas City, Missouri. With Donald serving in the U. S. Navy, Mary traveled with him to Boston and Washington, D.C. Their first son Donald E., Jr. was born after Mary moved to Osawatomie while Donald was still serving in the Navy. Donald and Mary moved to their farm home at rural Lane, Kansas in November of 1947. Their second son was born the month after they had moved to their farm. Mary was an active member of the Lane United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women, and the Eastern Star. She enjoyed sewing and gardening. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Donald who died in 2013, one brother Robert Curtis, one sister Winnie Lou Baker, and one grandson Steven McDougal. She is survived by two sons Donald E., Jr., of rural Lane, KS and Lonnie Ray McDougal and his wife Kat of Las Vegas, Nevada; her daughter-in-law Jolene McDougal of Paola; her sister-in-law Katie McDougal of rural Osawatomie; grandchildren Gregg and Michael McDougal; 4 great grandchildren; 4 great-great grandchildren; many other relatives and friends.
