Marlene M. Ferguson, 84, of Ottawa, Kansas, passed away Thursday, April 27, 2023, at Olathe Medical Center, Olathe, Kansas.
Funeral services will be held 2:00 P.M., Saturday, May 6, 2023, at Dengel & Son Mortuary, Ottawa. The family will meet friends from 5:30 P.M. to 7:30 P.M., Friday, May 5, 2023, at the mortuary.
Interment Highland Cemetery, Ottawa, Kansas.
Marlene was born Saturday, January 7, 1939, in Ottawa, Kansas, the daughter of Clifford and Lois (Brubaker) Carey.
She was a lifelong Franklin County and Ottawa resident, graduating from Ottawa High School with the class of 1957.
Marlene was united in marriage to Fred Ferguson September 20, 1959, in Ottawa, Kansas. They shared sixty-three years of marriage together. He survives of the home.
She was employed with Bell Telephone from 1957 to 1959 as a telephone operator. Marlene then worked as a bookkeeper in the early 1960s for Hayworth Construction. She continued her employment working in the food service industry with USD 290 Junior High School and then with the Ottawa High School from the middle 1970s until her retirement in 1996.
Marlene was the former president of the Fairmont Birthday Club, Ottawa, and a member of the OW Bowling Association. She enjoyed going out to eat, watching western movies, motorcycle riding, reading, and cross stitching. Marlene especially enjoyed spending time with her family and grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; bother, Lawrence Carey; nephew, Vance Carey; and niece, Kristin Carey-Martin.
Survivors include husband, Fred Ferguson; sons, Brad Ferguson (Annette) of Wellsville, Kansas, Rick Ferguson (Kathy) of Ottawa; brother, Richard Carey (Pat) of Donna, Texas; grandchildren, Matthew Ferguson (Lindy) of Wellsville, Kansas, Andrew Ferguson (Brittni) of Ottawa, Shelby Ferguson (Ryan Henke fiancé) of Lawrence, Kansas, MaKenna Manis (Ben) of Williamsburg, Kansas; great grandchildren, Fredrick Ferguson, Thomas Ferguson, Elijah Ferguson, Elsie Ferguson, Bristol Manis, and Audree Manis.
The family suggests memorial contributions to Franklin County Cancer Foundation or Baldwin Healthcare and Rehabilitation Activity Fund c/o Dengel & Son Mortuary, 235 S. Hickory, Ottawa, Kansas 66067.
