Mabel “Gail” Livingood, age 90, formerly of Ottawa, Kansas, passed away on Wednesday, July 26, 2023, at Lawrence Memorial Medical Center.
Visitation will be held from 10:00 am to 11:00 am, Wednesday, August 2, 2023, at Dengel & Son Mortuary, 235 S. Hickory St, Ottawa, Kansas 66053. Funeral service will be held at 11:00 am, also at the funeral home. Burial will be held Highland Cemetery, Ottawa, Kansas.
Gail was born on Monday, May 8, 1933, in Beverly, Kansas. She was the daughter of Chester and Myrtle (Sparks) Anderson. Gail was a member of Beverly Community Church and attended Sunday school growing up. She graduated from Beverly High School with the class of 1951.
While in high school, she met the love of her life, Gene Livingood. The couple was married on April 7, 1953, in Bentonville, Arkansas. Together, they had three children; Gene, Mary Gail and Connie. Over the years, they lived in Overland Park, Kansas, Merriam, Kansas, Lake of the Ozarks, Ottawa, Kansas, and finally Eudora, Kansas.
Gail worked in the mailroom as supervisor for 18 years at Capitol Federal Savings in Overland Park, Kansas. She retired in 1993. Gail enjoyed watching her husband, son and grandkids drag race. She enjoyed watching old westerns on tv and doing crossword puzzles. Above all, Gail loved her family.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Gene Livingood, parents, Chester and Myrtle Anderson, four siblings; Chester “Jr” Anderson, Roxie Jenkins, Guy Anderson and Mary Ann Cooper.
Survivors include her three children; Gene (Kathy) Livingood II, Mary Gail (Martin) Flemming, and Connie (John) Dost, seven grandchildren; Michael Armstrong, Steven and Chris Livingood, Jessica (Eric) Lee, Andrea (Alex) Zajac, John Dost II, and Sara Culp (Matt Ayres), eight great grandchildren; Kayla, Eric, Luke and Joshua Zajac, Bryce and Casandra Lee, Riley and Barrett Armstrong, as well as many other nieces, nephews and extended family members.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made payable to Franklin County Cancer Foundation, c/o Dengel & Son Mortuary, 235 S. Hickory St, Ottawa, Kansas 66067.
