Lynda Sue Town

September 24, 1947 — December 26, 2023

Lynda Sue Town “Morgan”, 76, a life-long resident of Miami County, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, December 26th, 2023, at St. Luke’s South Hospital from complications of lung cancer and double pneumonia.

Sue, her preferred name, was the only daughter born to Marvin and Rosemary Morgan in Cañon City, Colorado on September 24, 1947. Her family moved back to Somerset before she entered grade school. She completed her elementary and middle school education at the old Somerset School house in Somerset, before graduating from Louisburg High School in 1965.

She was united in marriage on August 31, 1968, to Winton D. Town as he was serving in the armed forces for our country. The following year, they welcomed their first child, Winton D. Town II (known as Luke). In 1971, their family grew with the arrival of their daughter, Kristina Rene (Town) Loethen. They built their home in Somerset, surrounded by relatives from both sides of the family. Together, they shared countless moments of happiness and created cherished memories that would last a lifetime.

In 1992, she became a grandmother and eagerly accepted the name Meme.

Over the years, she gained three more grandchildren and two step-grandchildren. Her love for them was unconditional and incomparable, as only a grandmother's love can be.

Throughout her entire life, her kind and loving nature made it easy to immediately warm up to her. Her outgoing and friendly personality left a lasting impression on those she met. And when she smiled, it was impossible not to smile back and her laughter was contagious.

Sue was a music enthusiast, with a particular love for the old Rock-N-Roll and Elvis Presley songs of the 50s and 60s, as well as country music. Not only did she enjoy listening to music, but she also had a passion for singing. Whenever there was a karaoke night at the American Legion or Timber Creek in Louisburg, she would always be one of the first to sign up and sing some of her favorite Patsy Cline tunes.

She was a survivor of Breast Cancer in 2013 and had lung cancer in remission since 2020. Sue's courage and strength were an inspiration to everyone around her. She never let cancer define her or stop her from living life to the fullest. She continued to enjoy spending time with her family and friends, going out to her favorite hangouts to be surrounded by her friends and grabbing a bite to eat at her favorite restaurants. She wanted to pass along a message to those who read this, “If you smoke, please stop for the sake of your own health to extend your time with family and friends.”

Luke Town and his wife Carla of rural Paola, along with Kristi Loethen and her husband, Robert, also of rural Paola, are left behind by her passing and only 27 days after the passing of their father, Winton Town. The family includes four grandchildren: Dylan Town (31) married to Kelsie, Dalton Town (26), Hunter Loethen (16), and Brody Loethen (9), all residing in rural Paola. Additionally, there are two step-grandchildren, Hailey Engelmeyer (31) from Olathe and Nicholas Johnson (26) from Springfield, MO. She also leaves behind numerous cousins, Aunts, nieces and nephews, and many, many dear friends. She’ll be reunited with her Parents Marvin and Rosemary Morgan, along with her baby brother at the Paola Cemetery.
