Lottie Viola Love was born in a dugout in Meade, Kansas, on Saturday, June 6, 1908. She was the daughter of Edgar LeRoy and Ella Viola (Coats) Carter. A lifelong Kansas resident, she lived in Auburn, Burlingame, and Rantoul, moving to Ottawa for twenty-two years, then Pomona forty-seven years, returning to Ottawa in 1988, where she made her home until her death on Tuesday, September 19, 2006, at the age of ninety-eight years. She attended Burlingame schools first through sixth grades and graduated from Rantoul High School with the class of 1928. Lottie worked as bookkeeper at Farmers' Union Co-op in Pomona, a clerk at Lindsay's and Langley's Groceries in Pomona, operator of Lot-a-Loot Variety Shop in Pomona, sold Avon products for twenty years and Tupperware for two years. She also served as treasurer for the city of Pomona ten years, retiring in the late 1980's. Lottie was a member of North Baptist Church of Ottawa; Oasis Club; sixty-two year member and Past Matron of Pomona Chapter #305, Order of the Eastern Star; Dual Member and Past Matron of Union Chapter #15, Order of the Eastern Star of Ottawa; Ottawa Shrine #19, White Shrine of Jerusalem; Past District Aide and Past Noble Grand of Rebekah Lodge of Pomona; Past District Aide, Grand Chapter of Kansas, Order of the Eastern Star; Past President of Past Matrons' Club of Ottawa; former member of General Edward Hand Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution. For seventeen years, starting in 1988, she served as a volunteer at Ransom Memorial Hospital in Ottawa, for a total of 2,899 hours. She was also a Cub Scout den mother in Pomona. Lottie was a lovely lady and so devoted to her family. She loved their family gatherings, especially Christmas at her house. She crocheted beautiful afghans, created numerous craft items and enjoyed her soaps and Dr. Quinn Medicine Woman on T.V. On June 2, 1928, Lottie was united in marriage with Arthur Lee Burgoon in Olathe, Kansas. He preceded her in death February 14, 1936. On October 8, 1941, she was united in marriage with John Oliver Love in Garnett, Kansas. He preceded her in death July 22, 1988. She is also preceded in death by her son, Arthur Lee Burgoon, Jr.; daughter, Helen Louise Burgoon; five brothers, Winnie H., Theodore, Vernon, Ivan and infant Ernest Carter; two sisters, Ruth Croucher, Juanita Rice; granddaughter, Cheryl Ann Raby; and grandson, Brett Burgoon. She is survived by two daughters, Charlotte Raby and Linda Love, both of Ottawa; three sons and daughters-in-law, Thomas O. and Judy E. Love of Ottawa, Kenneth L. and Jackie Burgoon of Junction City, Alvin 'Butch' and Jean Burgoon of Topeka; nineteen grandchildren; forty great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. SERVICES: Funeral services will be held from Dengel & Son Mortuary in Ottawa at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, September 22, 2006, with services by Pomona Chapter #305, Order of the Eastern Star. IN STATE: Friends may pay their respects to Mrs. Love after 1:00 p.m. Thursday at Dengel & Son Mortuary until service hour, where the family will meet with friends from 7 to 8:00 Thursday evening.
