Lorraine Reed, 89, passed away peacefully Sunday, July 20, 2014 at Blackhawk Assisted Living in Spring Hill, Kansas. Following marriage in 1948, she lived most of her adult life in Overland Park, Olathe, and Paola, Kansas. Lorraine graduated from Kirkwood, Missouri High School and from Washington University in St. Louis with a Bachelor of Science degree. Her favorite subjects were art, science, and mathematics. Lorraine expressed her artistic talent in drawing, gardening, sewing, cross-stitching, and growing African violets. In later years, she enjoyed quilting with a group in Paola and ceramics classes in Olathe. With her family, she was active at Countryside Christian Church of Mission, Kansas and at First Baptist Church of Paola, Kansas. Lorraine was preceded in death by her parents. She is survived by her husband, James Ross Reed; their children James Reed, Jr. (Jo Ann), Barbara Hicks (Joe) and Thomas Reed (Chalen); her sister Audrey Manley (James); three grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews. Lorraine was a generous, gifted, and dedicated lady who enriched the lives of her family, friends, and neighbors. We are thankful for her. A visitation will be held at Penwell-Gabel Funeral Home in Paola, Kansas at a later date. The family wishes to acknowledge the staff of Blackhawk Assisted Living, Spring Hill, Kansas and Crossroads Hospice of Lenexa, Kansas for their kind and excellent care.
