Loretta May Niemeyer, age 83, of Louisburg, Kansas, passed away on Monday, February 5, 2024, at Nottingham Health and Rehab, Olathe, Kansas.
Rosary will be prayed at 9:45 am, Tuesday, February 13, 2024, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, 606 S Elm Street, Louisburg, Kansas 66053. Visitation to follow at 10:00 am. Funeral mass will be held at 11:00 am, also at the church.
Loretta was born on December 27, 1940, in St. Louis, Missouri. She was the youngest of three children to Thomas William and Mary Edna (Meehan) Dawson. Loretta was raised and attended schools in St. Louis, Missouri. She was very proud that she was a Shriner Kid from the age of six until she was eight years old.
Loretta later met Lawrence Arnold Niemeyer. The couple was united in marriage on October 11, 1958, in St. Louis, Missouri. From this union they had two children, Susan and Sherry. Loretta and Lawrence were happily married for 51 years.
The couple moved to Waterloo, Iowa in 1961. She was a Girl Scout Leader for many years in Waterloo. Loretta was also a female leader for the Explorer Scouts. She later lived in Pleasanton, Kansas from 1990 till 2016, before moving to Louisburg in late 2016.
Loretta was a life long member of the catholic church. Throughout the years, she was very active in the parish’s she attended, often serving on the Altar Society. Her faith was very important to her. Loretta loved her four grandchildren dearly. She could often be found cheering in the stands during their baseball or soccer games. Loretta’s four-legged friend, Larry, a Rat Terrier Mix also held a special place in her heart.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Lawrence Niemeyer; parents, Thomas and Mary Dawson; two siblings, William T. Dawson and Rose Mary Von Behren.
Survivors include two children, Susan (Clarence) Lozano, of Coralville, Iowa, and Sherry (Steve) Stefan, of Louisburg, Kansas; four grandchildren, Jason Lozano, of Coralville, Iowa, Andy Lozano, of Des Moines, Iowa, Nicholas Stefan, of Niceville, Florida, and Ambrose Stefan, of Louisburg, Kansas; and her best friend who she considered to be a sister, Barbara Overmann, of St. Louis, Missouri.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made payable Shriner’s Children Hospital, c/o Dengel & Son Mortuary, P.O. Box 669, Louisburg, Kansas 66053.
