Lorene J. Finch, 97, of Olathe, Kansas, formerly of Ottawa, passed away Sunday, August 6, 2017, at Olathe Hospice House. Graveside services will be held at 10:30 A.M., Thursday, August 10, 2017, at Woodlawn Cemetery, Pomona. Family will meet with friends from 6:30 P.M. to 7:30 P.M., Wednesday, August 9, 2017, at Dengel & Son Mortuary. Lorene J. Finch was born Thursday, January 22, 1920 in Osage City, Kansas. She was the daughter of William and Emily (Duby) Crable. Due to the death of Emily, Lorene lived in Topeka until the age of ten and then went to live with her brother, Charlie and sister-in-law, Sadie Crable in Osage County, Kansas around Michigan Valley, and moved to Baldwin City when she was married. Lorene later moved to rural Quenemo, to Pomona, and to Ottawa in 1989. In January 2014, Lorene moved to Olathe, Kansas, where she made her home until her death. She graduated from Appanoose High School in Franklin County with the class of 1938. Lorene was united in marriage to Floyd E. Finch January 2, 1939, at Worden, Kansas. He preceded her in death May 20, 1997. She was also preceded in death by her parents, William and Emily Crable; 13 siblings, Charlie Crable, Clell Crable, Pearl Crable, Luther Crable, and Paul “Jay” Crable; and sisters, Beatrice Foster, Myrtle Smith, Fern Walker, Viola Bigham, Pauline Oroke, Kathryn Peterson and two infant siblings. She is survived by her son, George Finch and wife Pam of Pomona; daughter, Sharon Fortune of Olathe; four grandchildren, Daryl Finch, Charles Duane Finch, Brian Clark and Sheri Drake; nine great grandchildren and four great-great grandchildren. Lorene was a devoted lifelong homemaker. She was a former member of Quenemo Baptist Church and Calvary Baptist Church of Ottawa. She was a member of the Trinity Baptist Church in Vassar, Kansas, a 4-H leader in Michigan Valley, and a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Memorial Post 5901 Auxiliary. Lorene was raised in a musical family. When she was younger, she performed with a musical group at area tent revivals. She later played the organ and was self-taught in guitar, playing at family gatherings and sing alongs. Lorene loved to sew and crochet, making many lovely items for her family and friends and she enjoyed traveling.
