Linda Douglas, 54, passed away at her home in Ottawa, Kansas, Monday, September 7, 2015. Funeral service will be held at 2:00 P.M., Monday, September 14, 2015, at the First Baptist Church, Ottawa. Family will meet with friends from 3:00 P.M. to 4:30 P.M., Sunday, September 13, 2015, at the church. Inurnment Highland Cemetery, Ottawa. Linda was born Friday, October 14, 1960, in Ottawa, Kansas, the daughter of Kenneth and Geraldine “Gerry” (Dunn) Norton. As a young child, Linda’s father died. Linda was later adopted when her mother remarried Eugene “Gene” Bromert. A near lifelong resident of Ottawa, Linda moved to Wichita and Olathe where she lived for fourteen years before returning to Ottawa, where she made her home until her death. She graduated from Ottawa High School with the class of 1978. She continued her education at Evangel College in Springfield, Missouri, graduating in 1982 with a BA in Special Education and received a master’s degree at Mid American Nazarene College in Olathe. Linda was united in marriage with Duane Douglas August 10, 1985, in Ottawa. He survives of the home. Other survivors include her parents, Gerry and Gene Bromert of Ottawa; four sons, Aaron Douglas of Ottawa, Neal Douglas of Ottawa, Ryan Douglas of Guam, Andersen A.F.B. and wife Renee, and Mark Douglas of Ottawa; and brother, Mark Bromert, Kansas City, Kansas. She was preceded in death by her father, Kenneth Norton; maternal grandparents, Loren Dale and Pearl Mae Dunn; paternal grandparents, Harry Wayne and Opal Virginia Norton; and grandmother, Levina Johanna Bromert. Linda was employed from 1982 to 1985 with Mead Junior High School in Wichita as a teacher and track coach, and from 1986 to 1991 for Tomahawk Elementary in Olathe as a special education teacher. After her marriage she was a devoted stay-at-home wife and homemaker from 1992 to 1999. In 2000, Linda began working at Gardner School District USD 231, she became employed with Ottawa USD 290 working at Garfield Elementary as a special education teacher from 2001 to 2004 (returning to the place she attended grade school), and Ottawa Middle School for three years, also as a special education teacher. She was currently working for the District Office as an Individualized Education Program Coordinator, since 2007. Linda was very active during her junior high and high school years. She was a 4H member, cheerleader, gymnast, and ran track. During her years in college she continued her cheerleading and as a mother she earned the title of “sports mom”.
