Leo P. Pfannes

Leo Phillip Pfannes, 86, longtime resident of Louisburg, KS, died early Wednesday morning, August 19, 2009, at Olathe Medical Center. The son of Andrew Joseph and Effie Frances Seuferling Pfannes, he was born November 13, 1922, in Osawatomie, KS. The family moved to the Wea Community in rural Bucyrus. He attended school in Wea and graduated from Wea High School. He moved to Louisburg in the early 1950s. Leo was in the United States Army during World War II and was stationed in Korea until being discharged. He was employed at the Sunflower Ordnance plant in DeSoto and was a millwright at the Bendix Corporation, now Honeywell, in Kansas City, before retiring in 1985. Leo was an avid fisherman and loved to hunt in his earlier years. He enjoyed going on bus trips with his brother, Rich. Leo was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Louisburg, assisting in the construction of the church in 1954. He was a lifetime member of the American Legion in Louisburg and Paola and the Veterans of Foreign Wars in Louisburg. Preceding him in death were three brothers, Lawrence Pfannes, Clarence Pfannes, and Leonard Pfannes, and four sisters, Mary Miller, Katherine Holland, Gertrude Worthington, and Dorothy Worthington. Immediate survivors include his brother and sister-in-law, Richard and Ella Pfannes of Louisburg, KS; nieces and nephews; and great and great-great nieces and nephews.
