La Veta Turner

LaVeta Vieva Turner was born on Saturday, August 22, 1925, in Stanton Township, Kansas. She was the daughter of Charles and Estella Pearl (Smith) Bates. A lifelong resident, LaVeta made her home in Ottawa, Franklin County, Kansas, until her death on Sunday, April 26, 2009, at the age of eighty-three years. She attended Wellsville schools. LaVeta was a homemaker. In the 1990’s, she also worked at Wendy’s in Ottawa for four years. LaVeta enjoyed going to garage sales. In addition to the interesting items she found, she always found a friend to visit with. She enjoyed talking on the phone with her family and watching game shows on T.V. She loved spending time with her grandchildren and cooking and baking for their family gatherings. On Saturday, February 14, 1953, LaVeta was united in marriage with Claude I. Turner in Homewood, Kansas. They shared fifty-six years of marriage. He survives of their home. She is also survived by her son, Chet Leach and his wife, Juanita, of Rantoul, Kansas; three grandchildren, Chuck Leach and his wife, Donna, of Yates Center, Kansas, Dixie Goodall, of Piqua, Kansas, Heather Reed and her husband, Darren, of Ottawa, Kansas; eight great-grandchildren, Ethan Leach, Emily Leach, Kendra Leach, Clayton Smith, George Goodell, Jedd Froggatte, Nina Froggatte, Kirsten Hoyt; and one great-great-granddaughter, Raestin Smith. She is preceded in death by her parents; and three sisters, Lavon Bates, LaVerne Maxwell, Lorraine Bebe SERVICES: Funeral services will be held from the Dengel & Son Mortuary in Ottawa at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, April 30, 2009. IN STATE: Friends may pay their respects to Mrs. Turner at the Dengel & Son Mortuary after 9:00 a.m. Wednesday to the service hour, where the family will meet with friends 5:00 to 6:30 Wednesday evening.
