L. "Jose" E. Manis

Jose E. Manis was born on Friday, January 21, 1944, in Topeka, Kansas. He was the son of Lowell and Bessie (Lister) Manis. Jose grew up in Auburn, Kansas, moving to Topeka and in 1966 he moved to Ottawa, Franklin County, Kansas where he made his home until his death on Wednesday, April 3, 2013, at the age of sixty-nine years. He graduated from Auburn High School with the class of 1963. He was a member of the Aesthetes Motorcycle Club of Ottawa; ABATE of Kansas, Inc., a group that promotes and advocates the interest of motorcyclists; and the National Rifle Association. On August 8, 1965 Jose was united in marriage with Wyla Marie Gookins in Harveyville, Kansas. She survives of the home after nearly forty-eight years. Surviving family members include two sons, Kevin Manis and his wife Sharon of Ottawa; and Shane Manis and his wife MaLinda of Ottawa; sister, Connie Marie Eddy and her husband Gordon of Harveyville, Kansas; brother, Steven Manis and his wife Tonya of Auburn, Kansas; sister, Brenda Lou Piliar of Auburn, Kansas; five grandchildren, Benjamin Manis, Bethany Manis, JuLeah Manis, Rachel Manis and Katie Manis all of Ottawa; and many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. Preceding Jose in death are his parents, Lowell and Bessie Manis. Jose was a laborer working for King Radio; Killough Construction; Commodore Mobile Homes; Ottawa Truck; Parmalee Industries and Sky Hook. He loved, supported and cared for his family throughout his life. His greatest joy came from his grandchildren, who were a very large part of his life. He also enjoyed fishing and motorcycles. Jose will be deeply missed and remain in the hearts and thoughts of his family and friends forever. SERVICES: Cremation is planned. Memorial Services will be held at Dengel & Son Mortuary, 2:00 P.M. Monday, April 8, 2013. Family will meet with friends following the Memorial Service.
