Kenneth Caraway

Kenneth was born Feb. 16, 1936 in LaCygne Ks., to John LeRoy and Mildred Idolene Stark Caraway. He joined the United States Marine Corp in 1953 and served in Korea from 1953 to 1955. During this time he received his certificate in Mine Warfare, NCO Leadership, Marksmanship, and received the National Defense Service Medal, Korean Service Medal and United Nations Service Medal, he was honorably discharged in 1956. He was united in marriage on May 16, 1955 in Holbrook, AZ., to Loreen Elizabeth Walden. In the years after the service Kenny worked in California, worked construction in Kansas, was an insurance agent in Topeka, worked as an auto mechanic in Wisconsin and Kansas, owned and operated Caraway's Auto Repair Shop from 1981 until 1998 and was in partnership with his daughter in K&K Sporting Goods Store. He was a 37 year member of the VFW Post 3712 Paola, Life membership Commander from 1973-1974, and from1985-1986. He was a willing worker and held several other positions at the Post. He was a member of the Eagles Lodge #2673 for 39 years, belonged to Elks Lodge of Osawatomie for several years and was a member of the Cherry Grove Baptist Church of Garland Kansas. Kenny's hobbies were his cars and he always drove a sharp looking vehicle. He enjoyed attending his son Russell's sporting events; he liked all sports on TV, enjoyed camping and teaching his children and grandchildren how to skip rocks and fish. Golfing with friends was also a pleasure. After retiring he enjoyed being on his computer. He took up woodworking, and became creative in making furniture, restoring antiques and many other items for family and friends. Kenny enjoyed working in his yard and planting flowers after moving to Ft. Scott, Ks. He was a self educated man who was well versed on about any common subject; his favorite topics were government and politics. An excellent mechanic who people trusted and befriended, who stood firm in what he beleive in. A loving husband, father, and grandfather; a generous man. Kenny will be greatly missed by family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, sister Bessie Reynolds, and brother Cecil Caraway. Survivors are his wife Loreen of the home, daughter Kathy Boswell and husband John of Ft. Scott, daughter Tammy Medlin and husband Rick of Paola, daughter Kindre Einerson and husband John of Smithville, and son Russell Caraway of Belton, and 5 grandchildren Tanis Caraway, Jeffrey Caraway, Kylie, Ian, & Summer Einerson.
