Johanna Leigh Vickrey

Johanna Leigh Vickrey, age 25, of Louisburg, Kansas, passed away on Monday, May 6, 2024.

Visitation will be held from 5:00 pm to 6:30 pm, Thursday, May 23, 2024, at Faith Chapel Assembly of God Church, 840 N Metcalf Road, Louisburg, Kansas 66053. Memorial service will follow at 6:30 pm, also at the church.

Johanna was born alongside her twin brother on Thursday, September 24, 1998, in Kansas City, Kansas. She was one of four children to Jene and Teresa (Ross) Vickrey. Johanna grew up and was raised in Louisburg, Kansas.

She graduated from Louisburg High School in 2016, maintaining a 4.0 GPA all 4 years. She was in the gifted program and was always focused on her education with a goal to become fluent in Spanish.

She graduated from Washburn School of Nursing in 2020 with her RN/BSN and achieved the Sibberson Award for being the top student in all of Washburn’s graduates that semester. Her GPA is still the highest achieved in the BSN program.

Johanna had deep relationship of faith in Jesus. She lived out this faith by following her calling into nursing. She cared deeply for everyone. She strived to always see the best in people and always wanted the best for them. The best example of how Johanna lived was during her first day working as a nurse’s aide at a nursing home. She came home joyful that she had helped residents by caring for all their needs and getting to know them and hearing their life stories.

Johanna loved spending time with all her family, especially her 6 nieces. She had a great sense of humor, had a joyful laugh, and was always smiling. She would joke that she was really a blonde because God had given her a streak of blonde hair and beautiful crystal blue eyes.

She started her nursing career in the Covid ICU at St. Francis Hospital, which was very tough and heartbreaking work. A little over a year ago she went to work for Midland Hospice. She loved everyone she worked with and especially enjoyed helping patients and their families. Everyone at Midland said how much they loved “Jo” and how exceptional she was at being a loving and caring nurse and friend.

Johanna is preceded in death by her paternal grandparents, Loma and Wendell Vickrey; and maternal grandfather, Jake Ross.

She is survived by her parents, Jene and Teresa Vickrey, of Louisburg, Kansas; siblings, Jacob (Korissa) Vickrey, of Louisburg, Jasmine (Jason Burk) Lane, of Louisburg, Kansas, and twin brother, Joshua Vickrey, of Louisburg, Kansas; six nieces, Emma, Olivia, Anika, Analeigh, Avery, and Lilah; maternal grandmother, Oletta Ross, of Louisburg, Kansas; as well as many extended family members and friends.

A scholarship has been started in honor of Johanna to go toward future students entering nursing.
