Joan was born on August 29, 1938, in Hale, Missouri. She was the only child of Cecil and Mollie (Baxter) Adams. Joan attended school in Chillicothe, Missouri, and graduated with the class of 1955. She met her future husband, Paul H. Wagner, at Union Station. The couple was married on February 15, 1958. From this union they welcomed two daughters, Kim and Jana. The couple later divorced.
In April of 1981, Joan married George Blaine. The couple enjoyed many vacations and the lake home they shared. They later divorced.
Joan was a devoted stay at home mother while her kids were young. For most of her working career, she worked for Fieldhouse Research and later Henkin Research until she retired in the early 2000’s. Joan was an independent and hard-working mother and later grandmother.
Joan was very active in her community throughout the years. She was a member of the Red Hat Society, served as a Girl Scout troop leader, active in the Elks Lodge, and taught Sunday School and Vacation Bible School. Her faith was very important to her. She was a member of the First Baptist church in Pleasant Hill, Missouri, Life Quest church in Belton, Missouri, and finally the First Baptist church in Louisburg. Joan shared her faith throughout her life by loving people the way Jesus loves them.
Joan loved to tend to her flowers, grow vegetables in her garden, dancing, and loved animals. She was often referred to as an “Earth Angel” by her family and friends. Joan was very loving and was always taking care of those in need. She provided shelter to the homeless, and would give the shirt off her back. Joan could talk to just about anyone, and never knew a stranger.
She was an amazing grandma to her six grandchildren and sixteen great grandchildren. Joan could always be found at her grandchildren’s school activities and sporting events.
Her motto was, “Dance a little, pray a lot, have a great sense of humor, and you’ll have a great life.”
Joan is preceded in death by her parents, Cecil (Marie) Adams and Mollie (Earl) Coile, and two step-brothers, Kenny Whitaker and Dale Schelite.
She is survived by two daughters, Kim (Dwight) Manson, of Louisburg, Kansas, and Jana Garrison, of Pleasant Hill, Missouri; seven grandchildren, Amanda (Matt) Dunn, Jessie (Aaron) Messerschmidt, Audrey (Josh) Goodloe, Shawn (Keysha) Garrison, Shay Garrison, Ashley (Kyle) Blackman, and Jamie (Scott) Ballard; 16 great grandchildren; and boyfriend, Mark Tyner, of Butler, Missouri.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to your local homeless shelter or food pantry in memory of Joan.
