Jep Bennett

Jep Bennett, 84, of Lawrence, Kansas, passed away Wednesday, December 28, 2016. Celebration of life service will be held at 3:00 P.M., Friday, January 13, 2017, at Dengel & Son Mortuary with military honors by the United States Air Force. Following the service, please join the family for Happy Hour at Great Life, 1001 E. Logan Street, Ottawa. Private inurnment will be held at a later date at Highland Cemetery, Ottawa. Jep was born Monday, July 11, 1932, in Ottawa, Kansas, the son of Frank “Rans” and Jennie “Jane” (Davis) Bennett. He lived in Ottawa, Kansas, until 1974, moving to Lawrence, where he made his home until his death. He attended Ottawa High School and delivered lime for Killough Quarry. After high school, he went to Texas to haul hay. Jep then served in the United States Air Force. Later he became involved with Bennett Creamery Company, a family business. He later was associated with the Franklin and Miami County livestock sale barns. Jep was united in marriage to Georgia Mae Kline. She preceded him in death. He married Isabel Cordela Nesch. They later divorced and she preceded him in death. He was also preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Catherine Jane Bennett; two brothers, Frank Bennett, Jr. and John “Jack” Bennett; and longtime companion, Joan Miles Survivors include his son, Michael Bennett and wife Laura of Avon, Colorado; and two grandchildren, Cody Bennett of Dayton, Texas, and Paige Bennett and husband Tyler Bowman of Oceanside, California. He was a member of the Ottawa Lodge 803, Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks and the Kramer Drugstore Coffee Club.
