Gweneth E. “Gwen” Nance, 74, of Ottawa, KS passed away Sunday, April 19, 2020, at her home with family by her side. Private family graveside services were held previously at Highland Cemetery. Celebration of Life services will be held at 5:00 P.M., Saturday, June 19, 2021, at Dengel & Son Mortuary, Ottawa. Family will meet with friends immediately following the service. Gwen was born July 25, 1945, in Marysville, Kansas, the daughter of H. William and Alice (Millard) Myers. She was a lifelong Ottawa resident graduating from Ottawa High School with the class of 1964. Gwen continued her education graduating from Ottawa University in 1968 with a Bachelor of Arts in Elementary Education. On December 21, 1968, Gwen was united in marriage to Roger Dean Nance at Ottawa. They were married 43 years and had two children, Wendy Diane and Christopher Scott. Gwen was a devoted lifelong homemaker and mom. She was also employed with Osawatomie and Appanoose Elementary Schools as an elementary school teacher. She owned and operated Video Highlights, a video store in Osage City. She was also employed with Dairy Queen in Ottawa at the front counter. Manager and Sales associate at Sally Beauty Supply, Hampton Inn, night auditor in Ottawa and Vangent in Lawrence as a customer service rep. Wherever she worked or lived she made a positive impact on those around her. Her smile and loving nature were undeniable. She was always happy to give any of her “kids” a hug and words of love and encouragement. She was a member of the First Baptist Church. Gwen enjoyed quilting, knitting and sewing. She loved cats, reading and writing short stories and poems, playing games and doing puzzles. She traveled to all lower 48 states with Roger in his moving truck and visited Alaska with her sister Dora. Spending time with her family was always a cherished time. Gwen loved her kids and family and was fondly referred to as Mother (momma) Nance by many. Gwen was preceded in death by her husband Roger; parents, Bill and Alice Myers; sister, Dora Bailey and brother, Floyd Glebe. Survivors include her two children, Wendy Rea and husband Jeff of Ottawa and Scott Nance and wife Jennifer of Kansas City, Kansas; sister, Louise Sawyer of Ottawa; two brothers, Chris Myers and wife Cheryl of Ohio and Bob Knabe of Edgerton; bonus daughter Janea Poe and husband Dale of Quenemo; seven grandchildren and one great grandchild and many cousin’s nieces and nephews. The family suggests memorial contributions to Prairie Paws Animal Shelter c/o Dengel & Son Mortuary, 235 S. Hickory, Ottawa, Kansas 66067.
